CALL FOR ENTRIES FICMA 2016

International Alternative Media Film Festival

1.- THE INTERNACIONAL ALTERNATIVE MEDIA FILM FESTIVAL (FICMA) has as its objective to offer a space for the exhibition of quality films made with non-professional cameras, cell phones, handy cams, sport cameras, smart watches, tablets, etcetera, looking to promote the talent and creativity of those who have the desire of taking their stories to the screen but do not count with the big budgets that filmmaking often requires.

2.- THIS FIRST FICMA EDITION, will be held from November 26th to December 3rd 2016 in Mexico City.

3.- CATEGORIES. The Festival will consist of the following competitions:

FICTION SHORT FILM – Maximum duration of 15 minutes (including credits) using any filming device, as long as it meets the formal requirements of FICMA, produced in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

DOCUMENTARY SHORT FILM – Maximum duration of 25 minutes (including credits) using any filming device, as long as it meets the formal requirements of FICMA, produced in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

ANIMATED SHORT FILM - Maximum duration of 15 minutes (including credits) using any filming device, as long as it meets the formal requirements of FICMA, produced in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

DOCUMENTARY FULL-LENGHT FILM. Maximum duration of 60 minutes (including credits) using any filming device, as long as it meets the formal requirements of FICMA, produced in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

FICTION FULL-LENGHT FILM. With a maximum duration of 60 minutes (including credits) using any filming device, as long as it meets the formal requirements of FICMA, produced in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Also, in each category, the following awards will be given:

Best Director

Best Actor

Best Actress

Honorary Mention to Innovation

4.- SCREENING. The Film Festival Organizing Committee shall arrange the order and the screening date for each work. Closer to the festival week, the different venues where the films will be exhibited, will be announced.

5.- CONDITIONS.

A- There is no inscription fee for the filmmakers.

B- Entrants may submit as many entries as desired.

C- Though there are no thematic restrictions, the following works will not be accepted in any of the mentioned categories: videoclips, videoarts, advertising films or political propaganda.

D- To be selected, all the material must be presented in its original language and with subtitles in Spanish or English.

F- To be selected, all the participants must include stills from behind the scenes, in which it can be observed what is the device used for filming. Also, the participants must send a letter to the Film Festival Counsel, explaining the reasons, difficulties and/or advantages and opportunities of making a film with non-professional filming devices.

E- . Submission shall be online and must be sent to festivalficma@gmail.com, via DROPBOX, WETRANSFER or any other digital transfer means or platforms, and each project must include a file with the next information:

· Synopsis (English and Spanish)

· Director’s bio-filmography (English and Spanish)

· Director’s picture (Color 300 dpi, format jpg o tif)

· Data sheet with the credits list.

· Film Poster.

Physical material won’t be accepted.

F- The inscription and reception of material will be from 18th May 2016 to 18th September 2016.

G- Platform related expenses will be borne by participants, and the Festival will not take any responsibility for any expenses derived from any form of sent advertising.

H- The selected movies are also eligible for screening in future editions of the Festival, inside Mexico City or in any of the different venues in Mexico; also they can be proposed to participate in other festivals with which FICMA has exchange and collaboration agreements.

6.- SELECTION Y JURY. The selection of the Works will be competence of the Festival Organizing Committee, by a jury formed by professionals of the film industry, whose names will be disclosed promptly. Their decision will be final.

7.- AWARDS. FICMA will give away an emblematic trophy of the Festival to each of the winners in each category, as well as a certificate of participation to all the selected films. For the winners in each category, our sponsors will provide special prizes that will be announced until the moment of the awarding.

8.- Any issue that is not mentioned in this call for entries, will be solved individually.

These regulations are published in Spanish and English. The Spanish text will be considered the reference text whenever any interpretation doubt may arise.
